Research and data collection are an integral part of evaluating and improving the learning experience of students at Cosumnes River College (CRC). That being said, in order to ensure the use of ethical research practices, the Research and Equity Office provides oversight on research projects involving human participants at CRC.

If you are planning to conduct independent research with human participants at CRC, then you must submit a proposal for review by the Research & Equity Office before you may proceed. Depending on the scope of the research, your proposal may be elevated for review by the District. All researchers at the college will need to adhere to Regulation R-2265: Access to Student Records.

Your research is part of a project that is independent of the Research and Equity Office if it meets any of the following criteria:

  • A dissertation or thesis
  • An external research agency/project
  • A project you plan to present or publish externally
  • For CRC employees: A project research that will involve participants outside your classroom, program, or service area

Research – in the federal regulatory sense – is “a systematic investigation that is designed to develop or contribute to generalizable knowledge.” This includes research development, testing, and evaluation that contributes to generalizable knowledge. If you are unsure about whether or not your project qualifies as research, or if you have questions about the proposal review process, please contact us at crc-research@crc.losrios.edu.

Examples of Research

  • Surveys of students
  • Interviews with students
  • Investigations of the effectiveness of programs

If your research qualifies for review please complete the research proposal form below and submit it to: crc-research@crc.losrios.edu
