LRCCD Skype for Business to Microsoft Teams
Skype for Business has been the primary enterprise telephone and instant messaging solution for the Los Rios Community College District since 2010. However, Microsoft is discontinuing the Skype for Business product line and a replacement will be provided to all staff and faculty.
What
To replace Skype for Business, the District will be migrating to Microsoft Teams. Microsoft Teams is a collaboration solution built for hybrid work environments. It enables users and their colleagues to stay informed, organized, and connected through a single application. In addition to familiar features provided by Skype for Business, Teams offers several new benefits, including:
- Improved calling and voicemail functionality.
- Enhanced chat features, such as rich expressions and threaded conversations.
- Seamless document sharing and collaboration.
- Increased stability, scalability, and redundancy.
As part of the migration process, we will replace all physical Skype for Business phones with either a Teams-compatible physical phone or a headset to use with a softphone installed on your computer, depending on the preference that you choose. Additionally, we will deploy the Teams application and remove the Skype for Business application once you've been successfully migrated.
When
The migration from Skype to Teams will occur during the Summer. CRC tentative schedule can be found on the CRC Teams Voice Migration Timeline.
How to Learn More About Teams
To help with the transition from Skype to Teams, a series of training sessions were provided and recorded for future reference. For those that were unable to attend or if you need a refresher, all sessions were recorded and can be accessed in Service Central: Microsoft Teams Training Resources.
